My Approach
Our work together begins with a conversation and we can think together about how therapy might benefit you, your family/supporters, partner or organisation.
I have experience of working in the NHS for 10 years across the lifespan. My training means I can work safely with young people of all ages, from diverse backgrounds with a sensitive and appreciative approach. I draw on a range of different theories and techniques in my work and have an ability to be agile in the work to meet you where you are at and negotiate what you might want/need from therapy.
I bring a particular expertise in Child and Adolescent mental health (CAMHS) having worked in this area for the past 5 years full time. Prior to that I was working with young adults who presented with complex risks to self and others due to their trauma histories. I work well with children and families/support systems who have experienced adversity and whom may be experiencing the ongoing impact of trauma. Therapy in this context can feel like a big risk, as we can struggle to name or even our question experiences. I am skilled in finding ways to create safety, which might be through, play creativity or through non-verbal means depending on where you, your child or family may be at. Talking can seem a daunting prospect and I take time and care in trying to create a space which is safe enough for you to explore what's important to you.
If you are thinking about therapy for yourself, a friend or family member I would love to hear from you and how I might be able to support your journey. If I think that someone I know might be a better fit for you therapeutically I will share this with you and support you to make contact if appropriate. It is important that you find someone who you feel comfortable enough to meet with before working on establishing and developing trust which can take time depending on our life experience and our own scripts around "help" and "care"
I offer face to face sessions in Cambridge/Cambridgeshire as well as virtual sessions from the comfort of your own home. I predominantly offer sessions in the evening and weekends.
